The 1/2 Marathon I signed up for a few months ago is just 6 short Saturdays away! Wowzers! It's amazing how fast those races creep up on you. I've been trying to up my mileage lately in order to be prepared for 1/2 marathon numero tres. Texas blessed us with a cool and crisp morning today which I used to its full advantage as I got another long run in. It was one of those runs that reminded me how much I love running.
I haven't always loved running, believe you me. In fact I used to hate it. But in college I found it to be the best and fastest way to get a burn. My sister convinced me to do the Moab 1/2 Marathon with her in March 2009, and I haven't looked back since. There really is something to be said about the "runners high." Not every run is amazing, however. In fact, some, and perhaps most, are just down right hard and sometimes painful. But somehow you still get back out there to try again.
But it's those blessed runs that come every so often that make you truly love the sport. Maybe it was my favorite shorts or my awesome neon yellow shirt given to me for my birthday by my running friend/hero, Andrea, or maybe it was just luck. But today was one of those blessed days. It's the runs like today where I went out for a 9 mile run, but ended up running 10.5 miles, just because I could. It's the runs where I dance a little bit while running when a good song comes on, or when my mind stops thinking and just let's me be. It's the runs where I feel strong, confident, and accomplished.
Whatever it is, I'm just so grateful for running. I love that every running achievement is a personal one, and no matter how far a run is--whether it's 1 mile or 10.5 miles, you never regret that you did it.

I agree with all your thoughts. . . I kind of feel like saying "I told you so!" All these years I've been running and it's so great that my girls enjoy it now too. Way to go -- 10.5 miles is awesome. (BTW--cool picture--how did you do that?)
Loved this post Camille!! I want to know how you took that cool picture too! I must say that shirt looked mighty cute on you! You are looking fit and toned and ready for an awesome 1/2 marathon! Thanks for the shout out too! Now I feel like I need to go work on that blog so it's not just one measly post! Ha ha. Good motivation for me. I would love to run whenever you want this week! I'm usually available as long as you don't mind me lugging a big stroller along.
Wowzers!!! I seriously think you're amazing. I ran 1 1/2 miles once...
I ate a lot of cookies today and read about you running. Does that count for anything? Don't worry though, I did take my multivitamin.
PS Just how did you get this picture, your legs are smokin'!
Great post! Exciting how close your race is. You are looking so fit, not that you didn't before...you know what I mean. Your legs are lean and mean running machines!
Wow thanks guys! I guess that's what happens when your husband lives in a different state for like 4 1/2 months... you spend a lot of time running/cross-fitting.... oh, and taking dumb pictures of yourself running. Haha! A few of you asked how I got this picture, and basically, as I was running and contemplating this post, I thought "I should get a picture of me running, because I don't think I have one anywhere." So I definitely set my camera on self timer and ran by. I hope my neighbors didn't see. Uber geek.
Ah Camille that is hard work! Way to go. I'm doing my first run at the end of this month. It's a little relay race with some co-workers, but I feel like it's ridiculously hard to run for more than 3 miles so props to you.
P.S. Can't wait for you to be my neighbor.
teach me how to enjoy running please! I go 4 times a week and have a relay marathon coming up in 2 weeks. Once that's over- I am done. But I don't really want to be- I just still don't enjoy it!
Glad you do though!!
I'm learning to love running myself. Maybe one day I'll be able to really go the distance. For now, my first 5K I'm taking seriously seems slightly intimidating. One run at a time!
